San Francisco de Asís is a Mexican retail business group established in Mérida, Yucatán, with more than 100 shops in the states of Yucatan, Quintana Roo and Campeche, among which are various types of supermarkets.

With more than 35 years in the market, its willingness to continue growing and gaining recognition in Mexico has led the group to take on several business challenges:

  • High level of stock-outs.

  • Lack of a centralised Demand Planning department.

  • Stock control was managed by the shops themselves or by the purchasers and, in both cases, there was no stock replenishment process in place providing an overview of the whole supply chain.

  • Extensive use of in-house systems and spreadsheets to forecast the demand and the stock replenishment needs.

  • Stock replenishment based on a minimum and maximum strategy.

  • Regular pricing considering the purchaser’s experience and based on comparisons with competitors.

For this reason, the group selected Ágora and JDA solutions as its strategic partner, with the aim of establishing an automatic stock replenishment system and an organised and regulated pricing system.

Solution

One essential proposal was to be able to change the way they worked, including the creation of a stock replenishment section with more capacity and equipped with the JDA tools.

The changes in the way of working and in the project plan are always a challenge both for the company in question and for the managers who have to implement the changes; but working together and having the desire to improve made it possible to set up the JDA Demand, JDA Fulfillment and JDA Strategic Pricing solutions, thus achieving the objectives required by customer.

Results

Since the implementation of advanced forecasts and the improvement of stock replenishment capabilities, San Francisco de Asís has undergone continued and sustained growth and more importantly, now faces the future feeling confident it has the necessary tools to compete in a difficult market.
